indifference

So this is one of those weird thoughts that come up at 3am posts .  What is happening to us as a race?  Has Covid caused us all to become selfish and uncaring . I know this is happening all over the world . Will the ever scarcer resources just make us all meaner and meaner to each other?  The eugenics policies of our current government are becoming more and more obvious , the care home fiasco when they quite blatently sacrificed so many elderly parents and grandparents ? They were doing there best . Im no anti vaxer  but they do seem to be pushing an agenda rather than its benefits , just to get the older generation to go out and spend loads of money to boost the economy . Everything that is questioned , its nothing to see here folks .  After listening to the ranting of elderly men yesterday , publicly and loudly going on about sending all the foreigners home in front of groups of our local Romanian fieldworkers i was horrified . They come each year , they work in the fields they go home for the winter . Mr Bah humbug pointed out nobody was moaning about foreigners when he was in A&E the staff were every nationality under the sun. So do we now have worthy foreigners and unworthy ones ?    Am I one of the only ones who can see we are heading into a huge famine this winter , crops havent been planted or maintained  in so many countries .  As we hoard our vaccines and cut down on foreign aid  what will the consequence be . Millions more foreigners heading north to safety and food . Will Patel be mining the beaches and sending in the gunboats ?  Just think on what the next year may be like

  1. It broke my heart yesterday to see that the body of that poor little toddler had been found washed up on a beach in Norway. What an appalling end for the whole family. They must have been absolutely terrified. But I'm not sure dragging your babies thousands of miles to get to the UK is the answer. There must surely be safe places that people can settle without travelling right across the globe to our tiny island.

    1. It's the age old story where they are being told they'll get benefits, housing etc. The UK streets are paved with gold and you can get a share if you give me €2500 to get you there! This is what's being peddled.

  2. The only real solution to stop the desperation of these people risking their own lives and the lives of their children is to make their own countries viable - both with political stability and financial security. The western worldsmust help but more responsibility needs to be put on the shoulders of these countries - especially in the Middle East, Africa and Central America.

The west can't do it alone and neither should they be expected to deal with millions of illegal migrants on a constant bases - many are overwhelmed and simply don't have the resources themselves to continue with an open door policy.

As for migrant workers, especially those in the agricultural field - you make an excellent point. That "gentleman" who was ranting had better have an allotment garden in order to feed himself. My province had to make special arrangements during this past year in order to ensure that seasonal workers could enter the country to work the crops or we would have been very hungry indeed.

I think people are just at the end of their ropes and emotions are raw - it doesn't take much these days to set people off and it is becoming dangerous. However, I do think the media have some responsibility with the never ending reports of every trivial incident, of the fact that we are becoming a more and more fractured society with so many groups all battling each other constantly - it is exhausting. You'd think we would have all pulled together more in this past year but the opposite seems to have happened with people becoming more and more selfish - very sad.

    1. Hi Margie, I was wondering what are you thoughts on the terrorist attacks against a Muslim family in London, Ontario?

  3. I've heard people moan about doctors too... my elderly allotment neighbour attends the same GP practice as me. He doesn't want to discuss his problems with 'them'. He means one of the Asian doctors that have joined the practice within the last few years. When I asked him why not,and said they were as qualified as anyone else there, he didn't have an answer.
At Christmas I saw an old National Front poster online. The poster states: Stop immigration, reject the common market, restore capital punishment, make Britain great again, scrap overseas aid, rebuild our armed forces. It's all disturbingly familiar, as those aims are now seen as mainstream. That's how far to the right this government, and voters are.
