Royally P O

So whats all the fuss and drama over Harry and Meghan not wanting to be members of the Firm ? In all honesty would anyone want to join in with that lot ?  The Queen is the spider in the center of the web , probably with good intentions she houses and feeds her adult children keeping them dutifully royal , you only have to look at Edward and andrew to see that theyre stuck in permanent reverse , imaginary jobs to make them seem useful, a few worthy charity jobs , its a tradition dating to Victorian times and sadly the Royals have never moved beyond that . Minor royals have always been traditionally a bit thick and dutiful, grateful for the queen keeping them on the Firm .
Once they were huge celebrities but celebrity has moved on, its all Instagram and Twitter and marketing . The only reason people recognise the queen these days is from her picture on banknotes theres more excitement over some sucker lipped influencer dating a reality show nobody .
So along comes Meghan , self made very media savvy and steals our prince , hes never been happier , hes an adoring Labrador husband trotting one step behind his exotic missus , wondering how the gangly ginger baldy pulled this bit of  stuff , long may this last .
William has produced 3 kids so theirs no need for a spare heir , wouldnt be surprised if he pops out another this year before Kates ovarys shrivel and die , bit of positive publicity and all that .
There was all the squealing about Harry and Meghan not spending Xmas with granny but in the great modern compromise they went to her mothers this year , better than spending time with dodgy Uncle Andy , freezing and huddled over a 2 bar electric fire in Norfolk , then exterminating the local wildlife on boxing day.
So i expect theres been a bit of a showdown ,  they arent needed by the Firm so off to somewhere warm and with good plumbing and internet they are going , yes they will be an endless embarrassment as members of modern celebrity culture . But good luck to them

  1. I think the way the press have hounded them both is awful. Hardly surprising that they want out. Another, good luck to them.

  2. Have to disagree with you on this one I'm afraid. I think you take a very simplistic view of the Royal Family - they are in fact money makers for he UK - the fantasy brings in the tourists - the tours abroad lay the groundwork for trade deals with both Commonwealth countries and others and the diplomatic goals they have scored are largely overlooked because they are a "soft" byproduct of having folks to stay at the palace or honouring them with a State dinner and such.

As for H&M - I was happy for them and I think the press largely gave them a break, especially early on. They are the ones who have brought on the perfectly justified criticism with their making it all about them in that one TV interview when they had just visited with some of the most underprivileged people on this earth - the ones that they were supposed to be drawing attention to with their appearance. And then the celebrity two-faced eco warriors go off on umpteen flights while lecturing the likes of me who has never been able to afford a car so walks or takes public transit and who is lucky if I can save up enough to fly somewhere every 3 or 4 years at most! Walk the talk folks. You will notice that they aren't going to ban all press people - they'll just pick and choose who they talk to - just as his mother did - it's pure manipulation.
As for missing Christmas - it just smacked of selfishness - her mother was invited - again - which is unheard of for others (the Middletons have never been invited)! His grandmother is 94 and his grandfather is 98 and in poor health - it could very likely have been the last Christmas for both - they could have easily adjusted their schedules or simply had a month off over here and then joined the family for Christmas and NY.
And now to just drop this - very carefully planned out bombshell - disgusting! They want all he benefits without any of the responsibilities and that's not how the world works. And now she's done a runner and left him to deal with the fallout - speaks volumes!

    1. Got to agree with you. They seem to think Canada wants to be their semi permanent place to visit. I don't think many of us want to support their security costs. I know someone who was involved in the VI security and it was a pita.

I also think the marriage has brought out the "real" Harry.

  3. I personally think Megan thought it was going to be a doddle being a Royal. I think she thought everyone would respect her and they would be more liked than William and Kate. I think the cold hard reality of never becoming a top royal has resulted in her spitting the dummy out. No you can't have your cake and eat it. No royal service, no royal pay packet or title.

    1. Exactly , and I would go further did she think she could bypass the ine of succession and become queen .
She seems to enjoy telling other people what not to do , and making empty gestures .
I don't see her as an asset and she seems to have brain washed Harry into thinking he is a victim . Time will tell I guess but i do see parallels between this fiasco and the when the queens uncle abdicated .

  4. Couldn’t they have quietly backed away without all this attention.... which they say they dislike??? (Though I believe Actions speak louder than words)
How sad that his family and his “job” are one in the same....surely he knew this? Surely she did, too?
As far as “working to become financially independent”.... hmmmph. They are both in their thirties, healthy, and well educated. Both have fairy tale lives. Turn off the money flow and let them be. Poverty to them will never be what it is to most of us. I just can’t summon much sympathy.
Leave them alone and see how long it is before they want our attention again.
P.S. I’m American... so viewpoint on these matters solely based solely on media sources :)

  5. "The only reason people recognise the Queen these days is because her face is on banknotes" What a mealy mouthed thing to say. The Queen has been a loyal Sovereign for many years and is recognised as such the world over.
What you don't seem to grasp is that Harry is the Queens Son, not a butler or seamstress or pantry boy but her Son. Of course she'll do whatever she can to make things easier for him as any other loving Mother would do.
Perhaps you should think a little thought before speaking - "Is this Kind?"

    1. Erm Harry is the queen's grandson not son

    2. Erm yes of course he is dear. Sometimes in the heat of the moment one can make a mistake but there is always someone pedantic enough to put one right.

    3. Don't call me dear. Is patronising.

  6. Yes really. Calm down dear. No reply needed as here ends this conversation, better things to do!
