So yesterday i pottered off for the ritual nurse visit diabetes checks , somewhat oddly my blood pressure is low and so was my blood sugar , she seemed quite chuffed . I was more concerned and pointed out that this just doesnt happen , ever . Oh well book an appointment if your that concerned , heres the leaflet for the new System its fully automated online now . Ask Doctor has arrived we barely have to answer the phone now . I pointed out that it doesnt work on my ancient ipad , but its specifically designed for the android system comes the reply everyone uses that now . Errrr not me , i have a dumb phone and its for emergencies and incoming calls only. Met by a totally blank expression and oh im sure you know someone who can book it for you . Not the point really is it .
I did ask why i was summoned in a month early for my check up , apparently they have nothing on at the moment so are pushing ahead with stuff . The place was deserted nobody in the waiting room very odd its usually packed . Then it clicked , Ask Doctor has been running for 2 weeks already . We are the rural back end of nowhere , packed with the very frail and elderly, many who have no online access , many cant use the internet , many have dumb phones as well . If you phone the surgery all you get is Ask Doctor , you cant speak to a human and it just takes you in circles back to going online to book anything . How long till this latest dumb scheme kills someone ?
That's a horrifying situation. My phone is steam powered too but why should I be forced to buy a new one. I'm not averse to change and progress but words sometimes fail me.
ReplyDeleteTechnology has advanced so quickly my dear parents are unable to access any of the services. Family have to do everything for them, which is the one thing they didn't want. They wanted to retain there independence.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably the idea... Save the government a fortune if the weak and frail would just conveniently pop their clogs. Not allowing the frail and elderly to access healthcare. It's a flippin disgrace.
ReplyDeleteI can't complain about our Dr, he's just down the road and we can normally get appointments with ease but my son who is in the next town has to wait 2 weeks for an appointment. I'm with you about the technology, even though I've had computers for years they still stump me so elderly people don't have a chance (oh, I forgot, I'm 74, lol)

ReplyDeleteMy his and uses an iPad and his repeat prescriptions are hit and miss. I'm android and haven't had problems. I have a couple of friends that are techno phobic and dont have broadband so they are completely outcast.
ReplyDeleteWe are in our seventies and computer literate but know lots who aren't pitty help them. My daughter helps her mother in law but works full time and has two young children so does not always have the time.
DeleteThe BUS terrifies me I was ill in October a kidney and bowel infection after three days I was given penicillin and felt a bit better but still very ill. I had been seen by a caring doctor on an emergency appointment but after that only talked on the phone. I asked the receptionist for an appointment and was told none for three weeks. My husband and I are duel residents of UK and South Africa where we have private medical insurance. We decided this was the time to spend that rainey day money booked the plane in the morning flew out in the afternoon saw the doctor right away. A week later I was fine he could not believe my treatment he said heal yourself or die. NHS Free at point of contact if it is available, cost to me £1500 worth every penny.
ReplyDeleteI was not in a bus but battling with the National Health Service.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is brilliant when it works, properly. But The NHS is full of systems that don't work properly and can't communicate with each other. It is getting ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing needs sorting out out, a workable system finding and then carefully rolled out. It's not to much to ask for is it?
Otherwise 999 and 111 are going to get even busier in time to come.
I am looking for a platform to complain and rant about these kind of issues nationally. Do you know one? I tried Tax Payers Alliance but could not see a way to contact them and bring up my issues like the one here!!!
