Slavery

Lets talk about something thats hit the news big time here in Lincolnshire . Now some of you may know I work part time for the Darkside , something im not allowed to talk about , they are truly crap employers .
I am familiar with the Rooney family both through my job and the fact that they are local legends , and theyve all been found guilty of modern day slavery offences and robbing the vulnerable .

http://thelincolnite.co.uk/2017/08/notorious-family-members-convicted-modern-slavery-lincolnshire/

Couldnt happen to a nicer bunch of folks , they give travellers a bad name , in fact they give the human race a bad name.
So the purpose of this rant is to bring up a few things ive seen over a number of years ,  that appear to be more common. than people realise .
The controlling males of both the Asian and Eastern European varieties  , this isnt saying  that other nationalities dont do these things . It seems to be very comman for males working here to bring theyre spouses and families  here . Then they socially isolate them , the women never go out except escorted by the male , therefore they never learn any English and the male does all the talking for them , with government agencies , schools etc etc . Some have been here for 10 years or more and cant even communicate for basic things , its abuse of a dreadful sort , they have no access to money , no friends and are trapped sometimes with partners who are physically abusive as well .

The abuse of migrant workers , ive seen many cases of vulnerable people working in this country who are abused shockingly by there employers , some have been here years but there employers cynically take the piss , i met a lovely middle aged lady , eastern European  who had been ill for several weeks had submitted a sick note to her employer and received not a penny of her statutory sick pay , she had been here and paying national insurance for 7 years . So the government will be paying her employer the money and they should be paying her it . I pointed this out and she stated that she had raised this and she was told to shut up or lose her job .  This is not a tiny employer they are a medium sized company , this lady works unpaid overtime , she is expected to work 12 hours a day 6 days a week and always earns the same 40 hour week minimum wage .

Weirdest conversation of the lot a young English Asian man who had married a girl from the home country and her parents had given them a tandoori chef as a wedding present!! This grinning little bloke who spoke no English but was an amazing cook was living in the happy couples garage, quite happily , he was indentured to the brides family in Pakistan because of debts owed by his family . The lad was horrified and was trying to sort out the immigration status of the poor bloke in the garage . But as he said his whole extended family couldnt see what the problem was , they all "employ" staff in a similar vein in their indian restaurants .

So heres a few horror stories to remind you that unless you really look you dont see the awful things that are going on around you , theres a lot of people who quote the "stealing our jobs " mantra who have no idea what is actually happening in this country . Slavery is alive and we are in Lincolnshire not London , open your eyes and look !!

  1. One of the doctors at our surgery was very unpleasant and I did all I could to avoid her. Last autumn I was so ill and our son was dying and needed me at the hospital. First she said I had to go to the surgery ( I couldn't) then she said she wasn't coming out.

Later she turned up out of the blue and stood in the hall making me go downstairs. She said she couldn't find anything wrong with me! What I didn't know at the time was that she was already awaiting a trial date for slavery and physical abuse charges.

She was convicted and has been imprisoned and it was in all the national papers. (I actually was very ill and was later treated). Some people are just not whom they seem... I am in London!

  2. The sad thing is the little tandoori chef probably had a better life in their garage than he could have expected back in his home country. I consider myself very lucky to have "gotten out and gotten on" but for some people this just isn't possible. I often think of the poor guys from Bangladesh (I think) working in construction in the gulf states - 50 degree temperatures and if one of them dies "oh well".

  3. Slavery, trafficking is a terrible thing. And although and Treaders says some of the conditions they are kept in here in the UK are disgusting by our standards but are better than their own back home, I believe it's the sheer isolation and imprisonment which is the real inhuman thing to do. It's an age old story unfortunately the streets of London aren't paved with gold!

    1. its everybodies assumption that this is a London problem thats so annoying , its everywhere and it doesnt cross most peoples minds to even think about it

    2. What I was referring to was everyone thinks their life will be so much better here. Just as British peasants in Dickens times believed they had to head to London for a better life. Hence the reference streets paved with gold! I know its widespread, I was an Immigration Officer for many years.

    3. Last month I flew to London from Edinburgh, one time my sis could not pick me up. I said ok put big girl pants on to traverse tube to South Woodford. Not used to tube, bit scary for me. What scared me more was that I was the only white person on the tube, should I be scared probably not but was so out with my normal. Was scared.

    2. Guess I adore your posts they are often controversial and thought provoking. My views are often different, whether it is nature or nurture no idea. Living in a different country I believe we do things differently, some beneficial some not.
I don,t come across the same issues you do.
Sometimes I feel I have taken the bait!😀
I do love a good debate, but blog followers can be so faithful, not open to debate hence I get hit verbally with a shitty stick.
That's ok, we are all different.
Admit can be a bugger wanting debate!.😀😂😀

    3. I think writing stuff is different to verbal. Getting your point across in writing is so different to a verbal conversation. I think my reply was taken out of context I wasn't talking about London but the age old problem of crooked people telling others their life could be so much better. Sucking them in then crapping on them from a great height.

    4. Yep writing a text can be taken totally out of context, as we do not have the tone of voice, fastness or slowness of speech, whether jokey or serious, normal cues we would have talking to each other Tania.xx

    5. Also we all live in different areas/countries, what one perceives as normal another doesn,t, I'e it is normal for me to believe and pay higher taxes , national insurance so our children have no uni fees, I don,t pay for water, dentist , eye tests, prescriptions. So discussions are difficult when perceptions of normal are so different.

    6. I have travelled al over the country and Europe with my job so I was made aware of the problems each area presented and the different nationalities involved. Lots of stuff was quite shocking.

    7. Tania, can not imagine!.must have been so difficult especially when children were involved!. News shows predominately young men, not refugees but financial migrants!. There must have been occasional families with children you wished could help though!.
Children we let in to the country all looked 30,

    8. Some European countries now use x-rays to determine age. Apparently bone density is an accurate marker. Economic migrancy is huge and often confused with asylum (like you say) Two completely different things.

  6. Legalized slavery is alive and well all over the world because of a corrupt system and arrogant men who feel entitled. It boggles my mind the things that certain people think is okay when clearly and morally it certainly is not.

  7. I fully agree with you, although I would argue that with the invention of the mortgage, credit & finance we have all become slaves that no longer have a choice and work from necessity not passion. The system doesn't care of course, as long as it can continue to drain the lifeblood of the working population through taxes upon taxes they have no concern for the wellbeing or quality of life of the people on the front lines doing the actual work. apologies if this comes across as ranty, Hope you and yours are all well, love Tricky and the Fast Clan

    2. nice to see you here Tricky . Greed seems to be the only motivation that is approved of these days . Work wise its even those within the vocational professions who are pigged off with it all .

  8. Tricky I agree, have been a slave to a bank for so long!. Next month free from mortgage , but still a slave to NHS for 2.5 years more until I can get my paws on pension!.Do I wan,t to go to work beaing verbally abused on a daily basis , physically no!. Being shouted at by bed managers as a family who has a member
who has died is taking too long to say goodbye, get rid of them was the quote, we have someone who is about to breach the 4 hours max on a trolley in AnE.Compassion no but we are expected to be supportive tea and sympathy, gut room clean it then be bright and breezy welcoming new patient. 30 mins turn around including last offices on body!.
2.5 years get me the hell out of there!.I,m a slave!.
