Doctor Tales

Well heres a surprise , we saw a useful member of the medical profession yesterday, a wee child ,bum doctor consultant , he informed Mr BH that he is 99.99% sure that he doesnt have bowel cancer or anything else sinister down in the depths , but will book him another CT scan to confirm last years MRI scans , he says that all the bottom half problems Mr BH is having ,from the gradual deterioration of his spine discs and bone causing more and more nerve damage .  He says they cant do a colonoscopy as it would do more damage than good  because of the nerve damage and hes somewhat baffled that a GP  would suggest this . We did point out that the said GP had sent Mr BH for physio because there is nothing showing on his MRI to show why he is in constant pain . We got a raised eyebrow at that point .  So thats one appointment down and 2 more scans to add to the list hes awaiting .
We are still awaiting the results of his head CT its been sat at the doctors for over a week but he hasnt been able to get an appointment , no change there .
Here is a tale told to me by Mr Bah Humbugs friend , hes a bloke that doesnt bother his doctor very often but he recently went into his local GP surgery to book an appointment , next to reception was a very large poster stating you must book 2 appointments if you have more than one problem , so he asked for 2 appointments only to be told he couldnt book 2 appointments they needed  to be booked for different days and times and he must ring at 8.30 in the morning to book each appointment they no longer book appointments at the desk .
Now Mr BHs friend works and is unable to ring at 8.30  every day until he gets an appointment so he pointed out this fact , he was then told if he was at work he obviously didnt need an appointment .
At this point he had to walk away .
He managed to ring up 2 days on the trot only to be told there were no appointments, on the third day he finally got through as far as the triage nurse who told him to ring again tomorrow to take paracetamol and fluids and go to bed .  at which point he pointed out his testicles were after 5 days of trying to get an appointment, now the size of a football and the paracetamol wernt doing a whole lot , they sent an ambulance!!! he was at work !!

  1. 99.9% sure so at the moment and its starts with not getting appointments with your doctor, so you go to the hospital. There was one woman on TV who summed it up the other day, the NHS is spending huge sums of money on tests to delay the outcome of something that was probably suspected earlier. Wishing you all the best, TX

  2. What a nightmare.
It makes me realise how lucky we are here at our country practice that Andy was diagnosed and operated on for prostate cancer with amazing efficiency. I must admit I was worried after all of the scare stories I had read.
I do hope Mr BH gets sorted out soon.
    Hugs-x-

  3. The consultant certainly was not a child, takes over 10 years to get a consultant post!.And he/she did not get that in a lucky bag.
Mr BH friend should have been charged for ambulance call out!. Costs over £250 to send one.
GP,s can only treat and refer!. With serious issues go straight to local hospital, minor injuries or accident and emergency or phone NHS 24.
If his testicles were the size of footballs he would not been able to work or get trousers on!. He was angry and exaggerated, makes me angry. Waste of resources that someone else may have really needed at that time!.

    1. Kirrie it appears you really missed her point, and the subtleties of exaggeration. Hope you also get angry for the folks not receiving proper treatment and respect.

    3. That ambulance crew, would have blue flashing lights to get to him!. And most probably a crash team on board!.Driving on wrong side of road which has huge risks, that is so wrong!. All because he was angry about GP appointment. He could have gone to A and E open 24 hours a day!.

    4. Staff in health centres need to act on what they are told!. Testicles size of football, medical emergency!. They can not think the guy is exaggerating!. So dial 999 .

  4. Kate, hoping for better care for Mr. BH. He's really been put through it. It saddens me how unprofessional the medical "professionals" get to treat us nowadays. I found myself a good understanding doctor and NP, and am holding on to them for dear life. ;)

  5. It angers me how the public treat people who work in NHS, apparently is OK to be angry , verbally abusive and physically agressive towards staff. I may or may not be on frontline, it is horrific!.

  6. Oh we do prosecute people for abuse, verbal or physical. Also misuse of services and attention seeking behaviour without a psychiatric condition. I'e making a receptionist believe someone,s life was at risk sending an ambulance!.In Scotland the man would be in police custody!.

    1. I work in a GP surgery and we ask if the caller feels that the call is urgent or can wait for a GP to call him/her. I cannot understand why this man did not make clear why he needed to see the GP as in this case he would have got an appointment or told to go to A&E if his testicles were that inflamed.

    2. probably because a bloke talking to a female stranger on the phone would have to be in agony to blurt that one out

    3. He did and person called an ambulance!.What can a GP do anyway in a room with no facilities, but refer to hospital. GP,s can not deal with urgent issues, refer and transfer.x
