I do think im on an endless moan at the moment , but i got up this morning to find that my pension age had risen yet again to 68 !!! shant be fit to go on bus trips and play bingo by then , the fact that i wouldnt want to has nothing to do with it . My health is very two step forwards three steps back at the moment not helped by an online GP who says its my age and i should expect these things , just petty annoyances . It has been suggested i go to walking group for seniors , having seen this miserable practice trooping round the nearest town, a friend lasted two weeks after being pulled too one side by the dayglo clad leader and instructed to go and buy proper walking boots . She did say she felt out of place because she didnt own a drab north face jacket and proper walking trousers all very over the top for walking round the local housing estates of course, then there was the fact that there was a few men still alive and marching trying to chat up those merry widows who didnt fancy another aging bore to nurse having finished off the first one. I really dont think that the powers that be grasp that country folk are a different breed we did all this wandering round aimlessly as youngsters for years , the tail end of our lives should be spent sat in a nice warm kitchen , prepping veg in industrial quantities for the kids families . oh and staring out the window with our knitting waiting to spot what language the swearing is from the white van man having broken an ankle taking a short cut over the garden. See even i have fantasies a nice warm kitchen something this house is incapable of achieving ...lol,
My practice nurse suggests I join our local carers group, it's 20 miles away, no local bus route and I no longer drive. Really useful!
ReplyDeleteoh ours are just as helpful , i order perscriptions it shows they are dispensed , go to pick them up and something is always missing . I was told to come in every day till they have it last week havent got any fuel till pay day so they have had that
DeleteI have never had reasonable advice from the doctor. I have learned the art of 'nod, smile, escape' !
ReplyDeleteit would help if they actually saw me ...its been 3 years now
DeleteI almost fainted in shock the other day. Not only did I get an appointment for my diabetes “one stop
DeleteShop” check up (eyes, feet, ,blood, wee etc) I also got the results of my eye scan back in three days. 3 days!!!! In the years before covid it wasn’t that quick. Now I’ll have a fight to get my yearly review tho 😩
I don't think Doctors are there for our welfare any more. My friend has a sore spot on her back and was asked to send in a picture, she lives on her own and would have to be double jointed to get a picture of it. Sounds funny but actually isn't is it?
ReplyDeleteI am in agony with my joints and am continually being prompted to go to the Doctor, what for? just another lot of pain killers or a patch as he advised last time.
Such a shame isn't it. Once I thought the NHS would be there for us as we got older but I now realise all they want to do is bump you off.

DeleteRe the pension age, had a quick check as I'm expecting to finally get mine this summer when I reach 66. 68 is for people born on or after 1977, 67 for those born on or after April 1960.
ReplyDeleteMy GP is fantastic I phoned for an appointment and got one five days later he then asked for three sets of tests for me and I have had them all within a month. Our mental health nurses are based in the health centre in a six month trial that seems to be going well and the specialist nurse for carers is also there. I know everyone has a different experience but I can only say how I've been treated in Dumfries and Galloway.
